Heart Defibrillator

Have you ever watched a medical show and they use a machine that “shocks” a patient back to life? One where the doctor yells, “Clear!” right before doing the shocking? This machine is a defibrillator, which is does just what the shows portray: it shocks the heart back to life. It resets the heart’s signal, telling it to beat on time.

The heart is the organ that supplies the cells of our bodies with blood. The blood vessels are the roads, the blood the vehicles and the heart is the engine. This is a great system, but like a car on a road, it is only great when the engine is running. Without the engine, the entire process doesn’t work! This is the same idea with the heart. The heart has to work to pump the blood around and doing that requires a signal be sent to it. This signal, keeping with the car analogy, is the spark plug. It tells the heart to fire, which means beat. When the heart is not firing correctly, like a car sputtering, it is in something called fibrillation. This is where a heart defibrillator comes in. This is a machine that will help someone who is going into cardiac arrest. The great thing about a heart defibrillator is that they aren’t all like the one you see in television shows. There are small ones that are sold over the counter and available for home use. Add to that, another great fact is you don’t have to be a doctor to use one!

AED Heart Defibrillator

There something known as an AED heart defibrillator, with the AED standing for “automatic external defibrillator.” This is a heart defibrillator that will work to monitor the heart (when hooked up to a patient having a heart attack) and will “shock” the patient when the time comes. Of course, this isn’t just any shock. It is administered at just the right time, amperage and voltage. The great thing about an AED heart defibrillator is that the machine works out all the details for you.

To use an AED heart defibrillator, all a person needs to do is hook it up to the patient. A lot of these machines are self-explanatory, with pictures and sometimes even voice commands, letting you know what you should do. So while having some training is great, it is not imperative. Plus, even with training, the ample instructions are great to make sure you don’t make a mistake. After all, stress has a way of making the simplest of things very difficult.

Shopping for a Heart Defibrillator

Luckily, shopping for a heart defibrillator is a very easy task. There are plenty of stores online that sell different types, including the aforementioned AEDs. If you are in the market, make sure you do your research and find the defibrillator that will work best for you. Don’t make the mistake of buying the first one you find online. It is a big purchase and may well save a life, so be smart and do your homework!
